What are some of your fitness goals, and how has working out here helped you achieve them?
I've exceeded my own fitness expectations at CF. My once-ailing knees are now pain-free and incredibly mobile. I've surpassed my peak physical fitness as a a former D1 athlete, conquered my first Hyrox race, and even claimed podium spots in local events. Through two pregnancies, I've maintained my fitness journey, and now I'm diligently working on my second postpartum recovery.
CF has been a game-changer, beyond the incredible daily workouts. I've also learned valuable lessons about nutrition, recovery, and the mental aspects of fitness, all thanks to the supportive community here.
But perhaps the most significant impact has been on my self-confidence. It's grown exponentially, empowering me to pursue and achieve my goals.
How has fitness impacted your daily life outside the gym?
Fitness has positively impacted my daily life, boosting my energy levels, improving my mood, and enhancing my overall quality of life. I've become more mindful of my nutrition and sleep habits, and I've developed a greater appreciation for the power of perseverance.
What’s your favorite class or workout style here, and why?
It's tough to pick just one! Here are three that stand out:
5am weekday: there's something special working out before the sun comes up. Plus, it's such a fun group of people and regularly attended, there's rarely a time I don't know someone's name.
Silver Strength: I was an honorary member when I was pregnant and loved that class because it was such a great balance of a good workout with mindful movement and a bonus stretching session at the end. The folks in these classes are so welcoming and encouraging. The vibe feels like a hug from your favorite aunt.
Hyrox Sunday: Lizzy puts it best, it's time to push yourself so hard that you “go see Jesus.” A more PC description would be an exhilarating experience that leaves you feeling invigorated and accomplished.
Is there a memorable moment or achievement you’re proud of since joining?
Working out alongside my mom was a special moment. It was inspiring to see her challenge herself and achieve her fitness goals, especially considering her recent health challenges. All of the CF coaches do such a fantastic job at recommending weights, subbing exercises, and correcting forms that you feel like you're not at a class, but a personal training session and is a testament to the inclusive and supportive nature of this community.
How would you describe the community and atmosphere here to someone new?
It's difficult to describe, I've never been a part of a community like this. It's a place where people of all fitness levels can come together to challenge themselves and encourage one another. The positive energy and camaraderie create a truly inspiring environment. And it's fun!
How has your mindset around fitness or wellness changed since you started?
There's so much to learn. As a former D1 athlete and coach, I thought I knew a lot, but CF humbled me. I'm focusing a lot more on strength training, balanced nutrition, and sleep now than I ever have before and the results are fantastic. Lizzy and the rest of the staff have been instrumental in helping me develop a sustainable fitness routine and a healthier lifestyle.
What would you say to someone considering joining our gym?
You have to experience it to understand it. While a single free class can offer a glimpse, it's consistency that unlocks the true benefits of CF. So I would recommend trying a week and if your schedule allows, try a couple of the different times so you can get a better understanding of the community. Don't be afraid to ask questions or step outside of your comfort zone.
I’ve been a member since July 2020
Fitness goal: to stay active and fit.
The biggest challenge I had to overcome was second knee replacement. I’m so glad I was at concept when I had to do this. The coaches were great. They gave me several exercises to do a few times a week to strengthen the muscles around it so when I had my surgery my leg would be strong. I had my surgery and was back at concept in 3 weeks. Lizzy was great with modifications until I had the degree of bend I needed to get back on the rower. This was a much better recovery than my first one.
What keeps me coming back besides the coaches are the members. It is such a supportive, encouraging environment. You feel like you can get through anything.
I’ve always had a great attitude and consistency with fitness and Concept fits that vision and continues push me to build my confidence and conditioning.
I love the Concept family so much that anyone looking for a new fitness facility Concept Fitness is always my suggestion. The members and staff are so welcoming and inclusive. Everyone wants to see you succeed.
How long have you been a member?
Almost 2 years , 2 years in March.
What are some of your fitness goals, and how has working out here helped you achieve them?
As a cancer survivor I decided I needed to be in the best possible physical shape moving forward so I needed to lose weight, build stamina and tone. I've definitely done all three and the added benefit - learning to eat properly. I needed much more protein in my diet. Being a vegetarian I was not and I couldn't achieve my goals without making that change.
How has fitness impacted your daily life outside the gym?
I'm more grounded, have more energy throughout the day and sleep better.
What’s your favorite class or workout style here, and why?
I love all the classes and the variety of each day
Is there a memorable moment or achievement you’re proud of since joining?
The 18" Box Jump. I was so afraid of face planting but finally tried it and did it!
How would you describe the community and atmosphere here to someone new?
The best! It's welcoming and fun. We're all there to better ourselves and it's such a supportive group.
How has your mindset around fitness or wellness changed since you started?
Tremendously. It's now just part of my everyday life.
What would you say to someone considering joining our gym?
Don't procrastinate - join! It's the best decision you'll make!
How long have you been a member?
About 4 years
What are some of your fitness goals, and how has working out here helped you achieve them?
I’ve been focused on fitness for life…where I’m able to take full advantage of what my mind and body can do at any given age. CF has provided a framework that matches my goals where they focus on form first, then consistent form, before increasing intensity. Lizzy and Rob have created an environment where I can push myself beyond a certain threshold but I know I’ll be safe because they’re there to pull me back if my form isn’t what I should be for my goals..and anyone’s really.
How has fitness impacted your daily life outside the gym?
It has given me the confidence to do manual labor without fear of injury. Consistently performing functional movements with proper form has built strong muscles and joints to be able to tackle home improvement projects I would otherwise not have thought possible without a high degree of risk of injury. But more importantly, from a physical point of view, it’s helping me build a strong foundation for the rest of my life for the simple things in life like going up and downstairs. Picking up bags of groceries. Sitting and standing. Little things we take for granted but become crucial in our later years. From a mental aspect, the improved blood flow, and mental strength needed for some the CF classes (Steady Burn Thursdays, Hyrox Sundays), has greatly improved my cognitive functioning at work where in my line of work (software engineering) is crucial.
What’s your favorite class or workout style here, and why?
All of them!!! Really hard to pick one over another but I’ll call out two of my favorites: Lifting with Lizzy and Hyrox Sundays.
Lifting because here form is critical for safe and efficient movement and Lizzy has an eagle eye for picking apart improper movement and providing the perfect cues to correct the movement.
Hyrox because it tugs at my competitive nature and pushes me beyond my mental and physical limits.
Is there a memorable moment or achievement you’re proud of since joining?
Hitting three milestones: sub7 2k, 225lb clean and jerk, and 165lb snatch. For each, Lizzy and Rob made it a point to be 10000% supportive and individualized. This is a group class setting but they are incredible at making it feel like a 1-on-1. They are true flow masters.
I should add a fourth: being comfortable with feeling uncomfortable. They are sooo supportive in the mental aspect of every workout that you’re ok being uncomfortable because they’re there to help you through it
How would you describe the community and atmosphere here to someone new?
Welcoming, supportive, encouraging, and fun! You know the saying “work hard, play hard”? Well here the community and atmosphere make it so that working hard IS playing hard. No better feeling than to know that no matter where you are on your fitness journey, everyone here is putting on the effort.
How has your mindset around fitness or wellness changed since you started?
It has been reinforced. Life long fitness is the end goal for me and CF lives and breathes it.
What would you say to someone considering joining our gym?
You will not regret it. Trust in the CF methodology and your life will be changed for the better.
How long have you been a member?
Since January 2024
What are some of your fitness goals, and how has working out here helped you achieve them?
I have been working out and training in some form or another for over 20 years. I like to keep an event on the calendar to keep me accountable, typically a weekend 5k, but I recently discovered Hyrox, where I like the mix of running and strength training. A few months after starting CF, I competed in the Hyrox NYC event.
How has fitness impacted your daily life outside the gym?
Over the years, fitness has become my answer to everything. If I am stressed out, anxious, or sad, I work out. If am happy and excited about something, I work out. After a workout, I always feel better than before I started.
What’s your favorite class or workout style here, and why?
Max Work Wednesday and Hyrox Sunday, both classes are a grind that you must push through mentally and physically. There is always a point in each of those classes, that I feel like I want to slow down, but have to tell myself to keep going.
Is there a memorable moment or achievement you’re proud of since joining?
Going sub-1 hour in Hyrox Chicago!
How would you describe the community and atmosphere here to someone new?
Very welcoming and fun. The members come from every walk of life, and varying workout backgrounds. There is no one typical member here.
How has your mindset around fitness or wellness changed since you started?
I am now much more focused on my form and training to perform. Every workout has intention to ultimately make me feel and perform better.
What would you say to someone considering joining our gym?
Don’t overthink it, and just come in! Give it some time for your body to adjust to the workouts and training
I’ve been a member since 2020
My fitness goals are to be healthy, strong and push myself to different levels while learning how to be more open minded with stepping outside of my comfort zone.
The gym has impact in my daily life because it taught me the importance of dedication, consistency, and how to learn from failures.
I love strong Fridays because I like the classes designed to push you to your limit while you explore new ways to get you to reach your goals.
One specific thing that I am proud of since joining is my ability to enhance my skills beyond cardio and machine equipment. I’m very proud that I have learned how to properly use free weights while ensuring appropriate form throughout my workout.
Concept fitness is truly a the family. Every single one of the coaches truly care about the members. The coaches want to see you be successful while developing strategies unique to the member on how to get there. It doesn’t stop there - the members equally care about everyone in the class. I’ve created friendships from concept that are unlike any others because we all push each other to do more and go heavier.
My mindset on fitness and wellness when I started at concept was that it was totally based off of cardio. Since joining, I’ve learned the importance of lifting and other forms of cardio that I was previously uncomfortable with. I’ve learned about the positive qualities of rowing, skiing, biking and running, and how they all have their own unique benefits.
To someone who is considering joining Concept I would recommend trying a couple of classes, not just one, because every single class is totally different and you’ll never have the same class twice. Since joining, I have never seen the same workout on the board. Their unique ability to create and develop workout plans that strategically enhance members ability to push themselves is only proven when taking multiple classes throughout different days.
